Mideo Cruz Artwork [PICTURES]

Mideo Cruz earned a lot of negative criticisms because of the artworks he contributed to a major art exhibit at the CCP. Majority of this backlash came from the Catholic community.

Because of these works, Mideo Cruz became the center of one of the biggest controversies to ever happen in the Philippine visual arts scene.

  2. You think that's brilliant? Mideo Cruz is disrespectful to Jesus Christ and especially, to God. And you call it brilliant? His works are blasphemous and he even calls his work "art". What a shame of you to say that it's brilliant and even give it two thumbs up!

  3. Since we were young we were taught that this face is Jesus Christ... Do you think that the person in that picture is really him? Is there already a camera during Christ's time that they have preserved his picture... I'm afraid that we are worshiping an image which is not really Jesus Christ, from there itself we are committing sin which is Idolatry...

Don't condemn Mideo Cruz, Jesus Christ taught us not to condemn/judge.

Luke 6:37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

  4. Ridiculing religion is one of the easiest tickets to fame. Look at Lady Gaga.... I`m tired of ppl trying to be shocking and this comes from an atheist with artistic inclinations. A question I'd ask the artist is: If religion was so bad what would have made this world any better?

As for the religious ppl.... xDDD You guys are funny... and you've had... like what? 2000 years of redundancy? Give yourselves a break.

  7. I don't think these artworks of Mideo Cruz are what you call "pambabastos". Like in the first artwork, where there is a penis on Jesus nose. Phallic symbols ages ago symbolizes Power. That's also what Mideo said when I attended his artist talk. What Mideo clearly wants to show is that Jesus has power, simple as that. I guess, we shouldn't judge different artworks just by merely looking at it.

  8. How sure are you that that is what Jesus looks like? It's just a mere representation of Jesus made by humans. Like what the third comment said, we might be worshiping a different image.

  9. he expressed his opinions and visions, and this is the goal of art. we may not know what these things really mean, but we must not hinder artists to express themselves through art.

take gaga.. many thinks her works are blasphemous and anti-god, but when we decipher and get her meaning and message for gender equality and self-expression, we realize that all things are metaphors and convey a different set of meanings. too bad there are few who gets that

  10. I think he had successfully expressed the true freedom of art. Art is freedom and everyone must have an open mind in reflecting on another person's art,may it be against or pro to our own's view. Common! Lets grow up and not be conservative anymore about these matters.
