Military Relocation in Augusta GA

Augusta has always had strong ties with our nation's finest fighting forces.  Since the founding of the Augusta Arsenal in 1819, Fort Gordon in 1941, and the Savannah River Site in 1950, there has always been a military presence here.  The Arsenal is no longer in use, but the Fort and the Savannah River Site have brought many veterans into the area over the years.  Lots of military have retired here after their service.

That relationship between Augusta and the Armed Services has always prospered.  Augustans have always had a special love for the military.

Homes near Fort Gordon

If you are going to be stationed at Fort Gordon Signal Center and need some off-base housing, the best places to look are around Grovetown, Hephzibah, and South Augusta.  The 'main' entrance to the base is located to the South, facing Hephzibah, and this entrance is closest to most of the base facilities and Eisenhower Medical Center.  This entrance is located on Tobacco Road (and turns into Avenue of the States when entering the Fort).

However, it is just as easy to enter the base from Grovetown using Robison Avenue/19th Street.

If you want to search for off-base housing on this website, there are plenty of ways to do it.  The site offers a very powerful home search page, and (a first for Augusta) you can also search for homes using Google maps.

The most popular places to live if you need to be near SRS are Jackson SC, Beach Island SC, and Aiken SC.  You will also find potential housing in New Ellenton SC, and Windsor SC.

This site offers searches for homes in all those areas except Windsor.  However the Aiken SC Board of Realtors has their own MLS which may offer homes this site does not.  If you wish to look at their database, you can find it at aikenmls.com.

Resources for Veterans

Fort Gordon has a military relocation home page, and a family assistance center (pdf link).

If you need medical assistance, you will be glad to know that the Eisenhower Medical Center is located on base.

The Signal Center has a small newspaper, which can be read on-line.  If you want to see the latest issue, you can click here (large PDF file, in new window).

Other Thoughts:

It can be difficult finding information on-line for military people transitioning through Augusta.  If you have found something of value to you that's not posted here, please send a link so I can post it for others!

This page will always be a work in progress.  Thanks for your help!
