The Top 10 Most Haunted Sites in Augusta Georgia
Caroline Ashe Your Source in Augusta, GA Real Estate October 24th, 2007
- Pendleton King Park – Named after a fallen prominent Augustan fallen in World War One, a ghostly blur flits about the park at night.
- Ezekiel Harris House – Many visitors report poltergheist activity there- this is a VERY active site.
- St. Paul’s – The oldest church in Augusta also has the oldest dead people in Augusta buried in the churchyard.
- The Haunted Pillar – Don’t touch it or you will be struck DEAD.

- The Old Medical College building is haunted by the Resurrection Man. In the early 1800′s students dug up corpses for dissection classes. Many of these bodies were later found hastily buried in the dirt in the basement. Ghastly!
- Magnolia Cemetery - Located at May Park at 3rd and Walton Way, this 60 acre plot of land has 5 Jewish cemeteries, one Greek cemetery, and several Christian burial areas. Started in 1818, many Revolutionary War and Civil War figures are interred here. Over 300 Civil War graves can be found, Federal and Confederate, including 7 Confederate Generals. The most famous would be Brigadier General Alexander Porter, who shelled the Federal heights with over 75 guns in preparation for the ill-fated charge of Pickett at Gettysburg.
- Augusta State University has a few hauntings. A Civil War soldier can be spotted in the cemetery at the corner of Walton Way and Arsenal Avenue. There are also catacombs beneath Washington Hall…Creepy!
- Appleby Library on Walton Way is also haunted, possibly by the spirit of Mrs. Appleby herself. The library was a residence before it became a library…And what’s creepier than old dusty books?
- The old Bon Aire hotel, which stands on the hill overlooking Walton Way. Just like the Shining, ‘cept occupied by more than the living.
- The Partridge Inn, across the street from the Bon-Aire also has ghostly tenants. Another very active site, many locals can report otherwordly activity.
The Most Haunted Street in Augusta Award goes to… Walton Way! Five of the sites on this list are found on that street: ASU, the Appleby Library, the Bon Aire, Magnolia Cemetery, and The Partridge Inn. It’s a regular ghost highway!

I think your blog may be haunted as well. It is all running together. Kind of like a house possessed. JK of course.
I think the blog looks awesome and clean. Just as I would expect Lydia – in my estimation you have the most elegant real estate website out there.
I didn’t know Augusta was into the ghost walks and haunted mansions. Sounds a lot like St. Augustine. Is there a connection??

Hello… I just wanted everyone to know I am with a Paranormal group called MEPS out of Augusta Ga. We have
investigated the Magnolia Cemetery. We really didn’t get very much activity. We heard something that sounded like
horses trotting but that was about it. We walked around the whole place, and investigated alot of the areas. Maybe
we should have stayed later. But we would love to hear about other places to try in Augusta if possible. just
email me! Thanks to everyone!
i did all of these places, i live in augusta
In the summer of 1970,I had a moonlighting job as a cocktail waitress at the Cellar Lounge. It was in the side of the ole Bon Air Hotel.Around the side(to left of the front)and down a couple of steps. When I would get off –usually a lttle past 2 A.M.–I would grab a drink and sneak all the way up to the roof. There was a deserted pentouse on the roof that I had to go thru to get to the outside roof. It would be so beautiful looking down on August and with all the wonderful smell of magnolias. People who worked with me had warned me of the ghost. I was not bothered at all to hear this. I was watched by one quite often from the window of the deserted apartment. I could see their form moving about and then it would just stare toward my direction. I didn’t get any feeling of fear. I really wish they could have communicated with me. I would have love to have known their story.
My name is Lisa and I was stationed at Ft. Gordon in the summer of 1997. I was a newlywed and my husband was stationed at Ft. Bragg. One weekend, my husband came to visit me in Augusta, and we were going to go out downtown and stay in a hotel.
The hotel is possibly at the very end of Broad Street. I know if you leave riverwalk and head towards the science center, keep walking past the old Episcopalian Church(on your left) and past the historic Plaque that says Blue Star Highway the hotel will be in front of you, kind of where the newer highway ends.
Anyhow, we were excited to get to spend some time together and quickly raced to our room after checking in. We began making out and hopped into the bed with the lights off. Within 2 minutes the light over the sink flickered, then turned completely on, the bed shook and there was a bloody fingerprint on the wall by the sink.
I am an EM-PATH which means that I am very empathetic to the spirit world. I became physically hot, my head started hurting and I started to vomit. I immediately felt like there was something evil in that room. I couldn’t stay there and it wasn’t because of fear. I felt so sick, and overwhelmed with dread, that I couldn’t even shower before leaving. We were in the room for less than 10 minutes, so we went down to tell the people at the desk what had happened. They said that the room was clean and that there were no electrical issues. “NO SHIT,”I said. “IT ‘S NOT Electrical and it was BLOOD not dirt,” I explained to them. Anyhow, I told them that something bad had happened there and asked if they knew anything about it. Well, when the lady started to talk, her husband ran out and shut her up. He offered to give us our money back and told us to try the Marriott. We did. But, I still cannot get over the horrible sadness I felt while looking into the mirror above the sink. I felt like everything revolved around that sink and the mirror. Perhaps someone checked in there to “check out.” Anyhow, the other interesting thing that made me stop in my tracks was a wreath on the highway right in front of the room. When I went to get into the car, I could not stop fixating on it. It made me feel as if it had a connection to the room. If anyone has any information on that hotel please let me know. I will be in Augusta soon and may just go by that place again. Thanks, Lisa
I visited Augusta State today…. i have always been open to the paranormal. I was walking through the courtyard in fanning hall….. i started feeling weird like claustrophobic (sp?) i was near the cannon and heard footsteps i was ok its daytime there arre other people here but when i turned around nothing there. The feeling was stronger at this point but i ignored it and went on my way. i knew something wasnt right so i researched the history and haunting and came across here. The court yard is on arsenal i wonder if it could have been the solider or my imagination
I live right across from ASU& my house has the gates to Summerville. The entire campus is haunted included some of the houses next to it.
When they dug up our pool, they found massive chains belonging to the civil war era.

I grew-up, during my early childhood, around the vicinity of the Hill area in Augusta, GA. I strongly believe the house I lived in was haunted. Whatever it was, it was not a good spirit at all. I have surpressed many memories of these ‘bad’ spirits. Wonder if any other families who have resided there have experienced anything??
I live in Augusta and it’s my understanding that the old medical college building is a convention/event center, not a residence.
I lived in the Partridge Inn alone in the late 80′s. In the early 80′s, using federal funding, it was renovated as a combination of hotel, apartments and shopping. The hotel failed first and then the apartment managers wouldn’t renew leases in order to vacate the building. I was the last lease signer so I lived there for about three months alone. The public areas were still fully furnished as well as the penthouse that still had premium furniture, stereos, televisions, china, flatware and glassware. I threw lots of parties in both the hotel lobby and the penthouse. I hadn’t heard any ghost stories at that time but I heard plenty of bizzare noises while home alone. Ghosts or not, I thoroughly enjoyed living large.

How can the old Goodale Inn not be in the top 10?
The skeletons in the Old Medical College Building were not dug up by students. MCG purchased a slave named Grandison Harris in the early 1800s. He was taught to read so that he could scour the newspaper for obituaries for persons buried in Cedar Grove, After the funeral he would memorize the burial site, dig up the body, and restore the site exactly as it had been. Bodies were placed on his wagon and delivered to the college for students to practice on.

I go on a golf cart ride several times a week on the Augusta State University campus. I have never seen any paranormal activity. Walked around the courtyard at Fanning Hall this evening…nothing. Did not got around the cannon. Going ride through again soon and pay attention. Will let you know if I see or hear anything.

That soldier from the ASU Walton way cemetary likes to come visit my room, on the right hand side of my closet. ( I can draw a picture) Overall, my room has had white and black orbs, the feeling of something watching your every move. The entire house is across from ASU, two grey pillars in our yard. When the builder’s dug our pool, they found massive chains from 1800′s. Further investigation, my house was burnt down, rebuilt and the surrounding homes- there are spirits all in this area, asu all the way down to Richmond Acadamy. One last thing, the one time I was in the Appleby Library, I was in the bathroom on the second floor just off the room with the fireplace- there was a creeking noised, naturally turning around there was Mrs. Appleby in her rocking chair. I pretty much get that feeling like something is watching or following in this entire area.
I want to know is anyone familiar with 2840 Brentway Drive which have Prickett cemetery that sits behind house ever been haunted?
