Things To Remember When You Are A\B Testing Or Split Testing Advertisements Using Google's Adwords

One of the most popular strategies in promoting products or services online is by using Adwords, the powerful advertising program by Google. However, using the program doesn't guarantee that you are going to get positive results. In order to be able to generate the kind of results that you want, you need to do a lot of planning, researching, and of course testing. This is where the concept of A-B testing came into existence. Basically, it involves running two versions of an ad to find out which version is more effective. You run the two ads then you diligently track their performance. Needless to say, once the test is over, you should choose to eventually stick with the ad that generated the better results.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know how to A-B test effectively with Adwords. If you are among these people, then you need to pay close attention to what we have to say. Before anything else, you must try to fully understand how Adwords works. You need to familiarize yourself with the process of creating ads, putting funds into your budget, running the ads, tracking their performances, and analyzing the numbers if there's a return on investment or not. It can take some time to learn all of these but you really have to.

The first step in A-B testing is keyword research. You need to search for the words and phrases that will best describe what your products and services are about. If you use the wrong keywords, you will be attracting the wrong traffic. When this happens, your conversion and click-through rates will go down the drain. Needless to say, you must spend a substantial amount of your time researching for the right keywords to integrate into your ads. This is a crucial aspect of the Adwords advertising program.

The most difficult part of A-B testing lies in the creation of the two ads that you are going to run. In this step of the process, you need to brainstorm for ideas on how the ads should look. What font are you going to use? What colors should be used as ad backgrounds? Are you going to use animation? Should you use an image ad or a text ad? These are just a few of the factors that you must take into account. This is probably something that you can't do on your own so try to seek help from others.

When you've decided on what the two ads would look like, it's time to run them and track their performance. You should measure the performance of each ad based on the differences that you integrated on them. For instance, does an ad using the color blue perform better than an ad using the color red? What type of action words are good in convincing people to click on the ads? The more information you gather, the better. When you've analyzed all the data you tracked, you should be able to identify which ad you are going to run in the future.
