The Reasons Why Your Cat Is Pressing Its Head Against The Wall

This picture of a cat pressing its head against a wall for like 30 minutes went viral on the image-sharing site Imgur. The one who took the photo is clueless as to why his cat is behaving in such a way. However, with a little bit of Googling, it seems that the behavior could be a sign of what is called the prosencephalon disease. This is a disease which affects the forebrain and thalamus parts of the brain. One of the symptoms of said disease is head pressing. As the owner of a cat, you may notice your cat pressing its head against a wall or other object without any reason at all. In some cases, the cat will press its head against a wall or other object for long periods of time that it causes injuries to its head or face.

Aside from prosencephalon disease, head pressing in cats can also be a result of toxic poisoning. Other symptoms may accompany the head pressing behavior. These include changes in behavior, damaged reflexes, visual problems, seizures, and compulsive pacing and circling.

So if you find your cat uncharacteristically pressing its head against the wall or other object, it's highly recommended that you have it examined by a veterinarian. The top cop comment on the image posted on Imgur is funny though - "He's giving himself a time out for failing his last attempt at killing you in your sleep". But seriously, you need to take your cat to the vet.
